Death row inmate Scott Peterson currently maintains a prison shrine to his murdered wife, Laci. He is also reported to keep and constantly smooch the photograph of his late wife.
Peterson has never admitted to killing his pregnant wife. And, he continues to write prison penpals to maintain his supposed innocence.
Peterson, 45, is currently incarcerated at the San Quentin State Prison (SQ) in California. He was found guilty for the 2002 murder of his 27-year-old wife, Laci.
She was eight months pregnant with Conner, their unborn son.
The dark-haired Laci had gone missing on the Christmas Eve of 2002. During interrogation, Peterson said he’d been out fishing in his boat off Berkeley Marina in Richmond, California, at the time his wife was suspected to have disappeared.
Peterson Didn’t Lift a Finger to Search for His Missing Wife
Laci’s disappearance had generated a lot of interest in the media and detectives had poured their souls into the case. But Scott Peterson’s demeanor had remained unchanged and unruffled throughout the search for his wife.
He barely lifted a finger as police volunteers and his in-laws searched for his pregnant wife. Investigations revealed the suspect had secretly been dating Amber Frey, a massage therapist.
The search had remained inconclusive until four months later. Laci’s decomposing body and that of a male fetus had washed up on San Francisco beach.
This was the exact area where Peterson claimed he had been fishing on Christmas Eve, the day his wife vanished.
“This is not over! I had nothing to do with Laci’s disappearance!” Scott Peterson Wrote
A 2004 trial found Peterson guilty of the first-degree murder of his wife. And the second-degree murder of his unborn child. He was sentenced to death and remained on death row since then. He has filed two appeals asking for retrial, but this has not been successful yet.
A motive for the killing has not been established.
He however continues to maintain prison correspondence with prison penpals. He claimed in many of his letters to friends that he is guilty of the charges leveled against him. He wrote in one letter to a female prison penpal in Maryland:
“This is not over! I had nothing to do with Laci’s disappearance!”
Sources say Scott Peterson plans to continue keeping the shrine he created in his prison cell in honor of the late wife he was convicted of murdering.
