Friday, the Sunny State of Florida began one of the largest evacuations of prison inmates than ever before in the state’s history today. Officials evacuated prison inmates in droves.

Yes,  on Thursday news outlets such as the Miami Herald and the Tallahassee Tribune reported that thousands of prisoner’s state wide are being evacuated in masses as Hurricane Irma looms.

One of the biggest Hurricanes in history is predicted to make landfull in Southern Florida on Saturday afternoon and most weathercasters say that the destruction that it could possibly do is nothing that we have ever witnessed before!

Florida Evacuates Prison Inmates in Droves for Their Own Safety

Secretary of the (FDC) Florida Department of Corrections, Julie Jones spoke out about moving more than 7.000 inmates to safer facilities out of the areas where the storm is predicted to impact most.

“I told every regional director to act like this storm was going to hit them directly,” Jones told reporters. “I feel very comfortable that our inmate population is safe, our officers are safe.”

Prison Transporation has been assigned to cart over 4,000 prisoners from the Southern regions of Florida, while 3000 more central Florida inmates will be transported to northern parts of Florida before Hurricane Irma is expected to make landfall.

Florida has been in emergency mode all week while announcing mandatory evacuations after mandatory evacuations for residents that reside across the entire Sunshine State.

Hurricane Irma Not Leaving Anytime Soon

With its massive size, forecasters predict the storm to cause a vast amount of power outages, flooding, and loads of structural damage from its 165 mile an hour winds. This has caused authorities to begin the process of evacuating prison inmates in droves, in an effort to get them all to safety.

Forecasters believe Hurricane Irma massive size could cause the greatest amount of damage as it is as big as the whole state which is 65,755 square miles- says CBS weatherman, David Parkinson.

It was only last week that prisoners were evacuated from Texas Prisons because of Hurricane Harvey. But, it is good that Florida is taking precautions now before the Hurricane has landed on the Peninsula – instead of waiting as long as Texas did to safeguard its inmates from the thralls of the massive flooding that occurred in Houston.
