Buchanan County Prison Now Allows Jail Visits on Sundays

Recently, News Press Now reported on Buchanan County Jail Sheriff Bill Puett’s decision to allow jail visits on Sundays.  He’s continuously looking for better ways to manage his jail while keeping inmates safe. This is just one step.

Sheriff Puett explains that they have a lot of peaks and valleys on employee time. These changes should help reduce some of these peaks while providing improved inmate support.

The department is excited about these changes mostly because it won’t effect its current budget.

Changes Being Made at Buchanan County Jail

1. Changes: Jail Visits on Sundays

The Buchanan County Jail will add Sunday jail visitations for its inmates. This will give them more time to visit with their prison loved ones, other than just on Saturdays. Many prison loved ones work on these days. This makes it hard for them to find time to visit the loved ones.

Each inmate visit will be for 20 minutes. One visit for each day… Saturday and Sunday. Inmates’ jail visits on Sundays cannot be from the same visitors who came the previous Saturday.

People who would like to visit their loved ones in Buchanan County Jail have to book an appointment for a visit. To book the appointment, call 816-236-8888. The inmate visitation appointments are scheduled on a first come first served basis.

2. Changes: Inmate Personal Property

Prisoners may allow their loved ones to pick up their personal property. To do so, inmates must complete Inmate Personal Property Form. This form identifies the person picking up the property for the prisoner.

It is the inmate’s responsibility to inform the person picking up their property. That person needs to call 816-236-8888 to book an appointment. This must be done within 21 days of the inmate’s arrest. After this time, the property will be considered to be abandoned, and authorities will destroy it.

The Buchanan County Sheriff’s department will not be doing partial or one item releases. Therefore, the inmates should ensure they release all their property at the same time.

News Press Now reports:

“This is a new procedure designed to streamline the process, Puett said.

‘We used to have lots of peaks and valleys for demands on employee time,’ the sheriff said.

These changes are designed to reduce some of the peaks while also providing improved inmate support, Puett said.”

Many county jails in the U.S. are switching over to video visits only. Yet, Buchanan County Jail now allows jail visits on Sundays, as well as Saturdays.

Although still behind the glass, isn’t this much better than video visitations?
