Famous prisoners Lyle and Erik Menendez are not allowed to have sex in prison with their wives. Both are serving life sentences without parole for murdering their parents in 1989.
Lyle was 21 years old and Erik was just 18 years old when they fatally shot their parents.
The kids’ parents were:
- Hollywood executive Jose Menendez, 45
- His wife Kitty Menendez, 47
The Case of Jose, Kitty & The Menendez Brothers
Both of the Menendez brothers shot their at father point-blank range in the back of his head. They shot their mother 15 times, including once in the face to finish her off.
The wealthy Menendez Family had then been living in a mansion in Beverly Hills, California. Their estate was worth $14 million at the time of Jose and Kitty’s murders.
First, the brothers said the mob had ordered the hit. But, they later changed their defense to be a retaliation for being sexually abused by their father.
The jury did not accept their plea of self-defense. Prosecutors contend the brothers wanted to inherit the wealthy estate by killing off their parents. Both were sentenced to life in prison for first-degree murder.
Where Are the Menendez Brothers Today?
So, where are the Menendez brothers serving out their time right now?
- Lyle Menendez is serving his life sentence at the Mule Creek State Prison (MCSP), in Ione, California near Sacramento
- Erik Menendez is incarcerated at Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility (RJD) in San Diego, California
The brothers are more than 500 miles apart. Yet, they claim to be quite close after serving over 27 years already in prison.
Lyle revealed that he and Erik write to each other very regularly. He said they also play chess via the mail even though this is very slow.
For over 15 years, Lyle has been the president of the inmate government. He also oversees a support group for inmates who were subjected to childhood sexual abuse. Now, he wants to be allowed to have sex with his wife in prison.
Erik, on the other hand, personally takes care of and supports terminally ill inmates within his prison. He too would like to be allowed to have sex with his wife behind bars.
Married Menendez Brothers Want to Be Allowed to Have Sex in Prison
The famous prisoners got married to their lovers behind bars. But, they can’t consummate the marriages.
Prisoners serving life sentences without parole are not allowed conjugal visits under California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitations (CDCR) laws.
Therefore, if the State of California has its way, these two men will never gave sex with their wives in life. Therefore, they’ll never have children either.
But the brothers say they are very close with their spouses. So, if at all possible, they would like to be allowed to have sex with the wives they took vows with behind bars.
Lyle married Rebecca Sneed in 2003. The famous prisoner disclosed that he speaks on the phone every day with his wife. Their marriage is very steady and involved. They won’t be having sex in prison.
Erik married Tammi Saccoman in 1999. Both Erik and Tammi had been prison pen pals for a while before they got married in prison. This famous prisoner revealed that Tammi’s love has helped to make him a better person while locked up. They too won’t be having sex in prison, according to CDCR law.
Both of the Menendez brothers express regrets for murdering their parents, and beg for their parents’ forgiveness.
