Unity is the single element that defines family as one, if there is no unity among family members; they are just a bunch of people related by blood. Family traditions are a great way to continually ensure unity along the family line.

Passing on family traditions that have been entrenched to foster unity is another problem for a number of obvious reasons. The first factor is the inevitable gradual death of the older folks. Unfortunately the younger generations don’t really understand the essence of these family traditions and as such, it dies away easily.
Millions of Americans are incarcerated, which makes incarceration a big factor in disuniting family and filling family traditions. An incarcerated father can stall weekend family sport, just as an incarcerated mother can stall 8:00 pm family dining.
